Lighthouse Gifted Cup 2025
Inspired by the Arabian Oryx – A Symbol of Brilliance!
Overview
This competition celebrates gifted students while promoting Qatari values and heritage through four academic events and a Talent Show, fostering teamwork and critical thinking. It progresses through three rounds: school qualifiers (Round 1), local area (Round 2), and national (Round 3).
General Rules
- Teams: 4 students each, split into groups for scheduling.
- Eligibility: Students identified as gifted and talented by their schools, from Years 3 to 6 (Grades 2 to 5, ages 7 to 11). Participants must be 11 years old or younger and in Year 6 (Grade 5) or below by the cut-off date of the competition’s start (Day 1 of Round 2).
- Conduct: Fair play and respect are expected. Teams must submit answers honestly.
- Advancement: Top teams from each round advance to the next, based on their overall performance across all academic events.
Event Descriptions
Writing Event
Individual task to write an essay or creative response on an Oryx-inspired prompt tied to the curriculum, showcasing analytical and expressive skills.
Challenge (Multiple Choice)
Individual quiz testing understanding of the curriculum across subjects like science, history, and Qatari culture, with questions of varying difficulty.
Bowl Quiz
Team-based quiz where teams answer curriculum-based questions revealed live by moderators, submitting one answer each, with Oryx-themed bonuses.
Collaborative Research Presentation
Teams research a topic tied to Qatari heritage, then present, demonstrating creativity and teamwork.
Talent Show
Optional event where teams showcase talents reflecting Qatari national culture (e.g., traditional dances or Oryx-inspired acts), adding a creative element.
Competition Rounds
Round 1: School Qualifiers
Held at individual schools prior to the main event, teams compete in the four academic events. Top teams are selected to represent their school in Round 2.
Round 2: Local Area Schools
This round includes schools competing in the local area, with over 50 teams split into groups. Gold Group does Writing and Challenge in the morning while Blue Group does the Collaborative Research Presentation, then they swap. Top teams advance to Round 3.
Round 3: National Competition
Held on a later date, this round features top teams from all regions of Qatar, competing on a national stage.
